A Day at Dorothea Dix Park

Summer and sunflower fields go hand in hand. Last summer, we stopped along the side of the road to take pictures with about 100 other people. It was a cluster. This year, we opted for Dorthea Dix Park in Raleigh.

We got there pretty early but it was still very crowded. I was amazed with how many families were trying to get “professional” photos. I put it in quotes because anyone with a camera calls themselves a professional but there’s a little more to it than that.

My child only wanted to face the opposite way of the flowers so there aren’t any gorgeous shots of him with hundreds of sunflowers behind him but he had a blast and that’s all that matters.

He also repeatedly told me “no” when I asked if I could take a picture or he could smile. So I’d say we have a budding two-year old on our hands and also have our hands full.

This is the last week to see the sunflowers before they are harvested. We went several weeks ago so I can’t say how they look right now but when in doubt, I always say DO IT instead of regretting that you didn’t when you had the chance!
