We took a quick trip to Carolina Beach for a mini-vacay before celebrating our nephew’s 3rd birthday in Wilmington on Sunday.
I love the Wilmington area and actually spent a summer living there with my best friend, Amy when I was in college. We lived in Oak Island and worked on Bald Head Island!
Thanks to all of my and Landon’s travels, we had a free night in points at the Courtyard Marriott right on Carolina Beach. It was our first time staying there and we loved it!
The hotel had TWO pools — indoor and outdoor. The outdoor one was a little chilly for us but L didn’t seem to mind. He loves splashing around. After a little swim, we ventured out to the beach for some fun in the sand. He still doesn’t like the ocean coming near him and was concerned when I let it touch my feet.
We loved the boardwalk — especially the swings!
On the way into town we stopped for lunch with Aunt Logan & Uncle Mitch and then got frozen yogurt at the Fuzzy Peach.
We walked to the Deck House for dinner. Landon’s flounder picatta was the winner. I got the shrimp & scallop stirfry and while the shrimp and scallops were delicious, the rest was a little too saucy for me. Afterwards, we split the berry cake much to L’s delight!
On Sunday, we walked to Kate’s Pancake house for breakfast. I got the 2 egg plate with bacon, grits and 2 baby pancakes. L ate my pancakes and 1/2 of my bacon.
Afterwards, we walked back over to the boardwalk and L lured us into a beach shop to look for trucks 😂 He found a few and declared them his “favorites” but we convinced him to put them back so we could go get doughnuts at Britt’s.
We walked back to the beach afterwards and watched some sort of training with the fire department and a group of (what looked like) teenagers swimming in a rip current. L was mostly interested in the trucks on the beach and didn’t care about the swimmers at all. We tired him out from all the walking on the beach. I offered to take him to the pool but he just kept playing in the room and never put his swim trunks on so there was no chlorine bath for us.
We made it through lunch at Hang Ten before the little one crashed.
As soon as he was buckled in his car seat, he fell asleep. We drove around while he napped for about an hour before the birthday party. He had so much fun with his cousin and the other kids — and of course he loved the cupcake.
It was a whirlwind weekend but so fun! He loves the beach and the pool and his cousin so much.
Another favorite spot in the area is the Ft. Fisher Aquarium – but it was so nice out that we didn’t want to spend our days inside on this trip.
Our quick beach-trip faves:
- Swim trunks
- Swim shoes
- Water bottle
- Diaper back pack
- Indestructible book
BONUS: my fave new bathing suit that I bought in 2 colors!
What’s your favorite beach? Are you more of a pool or ocean person? L will pick the pool EVERY time!
