The teachers at daycare told us that they often find L in the reading corner even when he’s supposed to be doing something else. So, it’s safe to say we passed on our book worm gene to him!
He also likes to sit in his room in the mornings and read before coming downstairs. And we read 3 books or stories in a bigger book before bed each night. He has memorized many of his books and chooses to read them to us and IT IS THE CUTEST THING EVER!
Many of our favorite books have remained in the rotation for over a year but we also have some new ones in the mix!
12. Hop on Pop
14. Potty Animals
15. Motor Goose
18. Red Truck
20. The Wonky Donky
25. Whoever You Are
I still get just as excited as I did when I was a child when we get Scholastic order forms from daycare. L and I go through them and circle the books we think we’ll like and then I usually order all of them (I am a professional book hoarder!). So, here’s a disclaimer as well, MOM HE ALREADY HAS ALL OF THESE BOOKS – DON’T BUY THEM!
We also get a monthly book from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. It’s a fun surprise and most of them have been great. Some were a little young for him but he’s pretty much happy with any book. He flips through the pages so intentionally, scanning them and calling out what he sees. We’ve tried to move from some board books to books with paper pages but it only works if we’re watching. If left with one in his bed during quiet time, he’ll 100% rip the pages and then ask you what happened to his book.
I’m sad some of our early favorites (Toot, Pout Pout Fish, Goodnight Gorilla) are now out of the mix. It took me a few minutes to understand what he was asking for tonight. I thought he was saying “canned stars” and he was getting frustrated that I didn’t get it. Finally we got on the same page when I realize he was asking me to read Curious George.
I’d love to hear what books your little one loves in the 2-3 age range!
