Life Lately – August

July was a blur. I came back from Colorado and headed off to Ireland and Spain for work at the beginning of the month. I made lots of time for my guys around that trip.

We explored Burlington and the park on Saturday. It was so humid but soooo much fun. We kept commenting on what a perfect day it was.

After the park, we had lunch and then ice cream. A certain toddler was thrilled.

We’ve enjoyed lots of pool days this summer. Our little swimmer has gotten so brave and will jump in on his own and let his head go under over and over and over again.

We definitely had some fun moments but we also had to say goodbye to our sweet Bud on July 25 — exactly 2 months before his 16th birthday.

We miss our boy so much and can’t get over how quiet our house is without him. L doesn’t quite understand but he seems to have accepted that Bud isn’t coming back.

We went to the museum and had a fun (but hot) morning and then explored Durham afterwards.

We went to Claytor Lake in Virginia for the weekend (well, Landon went to Nashville for a bachelor party). It was so much fun and so different from years past since L could actually get in the water and played so well with his cousins. He loved riding the boat but said his favorite part was reading stories with uncle Mark and when uncle Mark cooked breakfast. He is obviously in the Mark fan club. 💕

We set up a play date for Tuck at the dog park. He loved it. It was good for him to spend time with other dogs. He’s been depressed and anxious without Bud.

We did another family hike — even longer than the last. At the very end, L asked me to carry him but he definitely did over a mile on his own.

Living room picnics are our new favorite thing. L thinks it’s the greatest and it is an easy way to get him to eat all of his dinner. I’ve implemented it as my “stormy day” dinner plan.

I’m writing this from Boston. My second and last trip this month. It is such a wonderful time of year to visit — mid 70s (what a break from 90s + 90% humidity at home!). But I’m ready to go home and hug my boys. Looking forward to a long weekend. L is out of school Friday so we have a play date and Saturday is our 6 year anniversary so we’re having a 24 hour date in Durham. Cheers to the weekend!
